I have been honoured to serve as your PCC since 2021, I want to continue to make Avon and Somerset a safer place for everyone. Here's a few of the achievements I'm proud of, knowing there is so much more to be done.
- 1500 newly trained officers, delivering an extra 500 police into Neighbourhoods and CID
- Cracking down on illegal drugs, our Constabulary is now the best performing force for illegal drug activity disruption in the COUNTRY!
- Combatting violence against women and girls, by introducing a new approach to investigations we have achieved a 300% increase in rape cases reaching the courts.
- Our dedicated rural crime team and force-wide training means we are combatting machinery theft, hare-coursing, illegal encampments and stopping raves before they happen.
- Reducing reoffending by launching the award winning Prisoners Building Homes programme, delivering affordable homes and giving employment skills for prisoners to have a fresh start on release.
I appointed a new courageous Chief Constable in 2021 and I have challenged her to pursue excellence no matter how long it takes.
I've ensured that accountability is public - livestreaming our monthly meetings so YOU can see the progress.
I've lobbied government and secured over £1m in extra funding to make our streets safer.
AND I'm ensuring YOU have better access to the police - opening two new police stations in Bath and Minehead and investing in refurbishing the stations in Yeovil and Trinity Road, Bristol.
Yes, there's more to do -
We must protect our young people from violent criminals who seek to exploit them - I'm working on education programmes and partnering with youth groups to build their resilience to the modern pressures they encounter.
Fraud and online scams are the unseen crimes that can have far reaching consequences - as national PCC lead for economic and cyber crime, I've seen this crime type DECREASE in our area. I remain committed to protecting residents and business.
